Par-Kar Coach Company Expands Quickly in St Louis

Inquiry into business conditions shows Par-Kar Coach, located in the old Hellstrom plant, already exceeds expectations with 37 workers and full capacity for four months. President Westfall reports potential orders totaling about 260,000 dollars and talks of a half million dollars in business the first year. Delegate Slate Was a Winner at Ithaca Primary

Delegates elected at the Ithaca Republican county convention to be held September 21 were chosen across six city precincts. The tallies list names for each ward and precinct, including Karl Adams, Daniel Sharrar, Otto Sanderhoff, and others across wards one through four.

Alma Merchants End Summer Vaudeville Season

The final vaudeville entertainment of the season was presented by the Alma Merchants to be friends in Alma on a Wednesday evening. Colder fall weather and the threat of rain prompted bringing the shows to a close. The series drew thousands weekly, attracting crowds from nearby communities and the countryside, and helped the merchants gain many new friends among visitors.

Michigan institutes start in state health education drive

Michigan health education forces consolidated to field work. The first health institute began in Berrien county this week and runs to Sept 16. Five counties have fixed dates. others are being arranged. Oct 2 to Dec 2 covers lower peninsula visits including Montcalm Mecosta Clinton Oakland. Institute staff includes Poole Browne Wilson Rose Hutzel Moore and three nurse aides. Fortnightly society opening meeting featured music storytelling and a review of The Trend of the Races with refreshments and social hour.

Legion post seeks community club house in city

George W. Myers Post No 152 of this city voted to pursue efforts toward establishing a post club house. The post will not wage a fund campaign, though a committee will arrange entertainments over several months to raise funds.

Constitution Day to Be Observed Nationwide

The Coalition Committee for Michigan plans a state-wide observance of the Constitution signing anniversary on September 17. Clergymen will preach, teachers will hold exercises, and farms, clubs, industries, and businesses will display the national colors to promote renewed interest in free government and civic fundamentals.

Gratiot County Sunday School Convention in Ithaca

The Gratiot County Sunday School Association invits Ithaca to host its annual convention on September 23 and 24. State association officers will attend to provide instruction and enthusiasm. Dr J H W Engle the state secretary is described as energetic and helpful. Irene Rochenbach, new children’s work superintendent, will be present with addresses and demonstrations. A young people conference will be held Sunday afternoon.

Mrs Ruggles Hosts Bridge Party For Saginaw Bride Elect

Mrs Ruggles entertained fifty guests at a bridge party with gardens and flowers from Mis Ruggles. Lan ning won high score, Mrs Lamb took consolation, Miss Felman received the house prize, and Miss Houlihan won an imported boudoir gown. Luncheon followed, eight of the bride elect’s friends served. Houlihan names Ruggles as matron of honor. Also announced is the birth of Frances Josephine, an eight and a half pound girl to Mr and Mrs Clarence Pettyjohn.

Alma College Opens Year With Large Chapel Service

Alma College began the new academic year with a full chapel service drawing most students. Dean James E. Mitchell gave the opening address reflecting on Oxford life after a year in Europe. Enrollment in the four college classes surpasses 240, with expectations it will rise toward 270 before year’s end and potentially reach 300 total. Special music highlighted the service and freshmen were urged to purchase chapel seats as in past years.

Vincent Wins Congress in Eighth District Race

Bird J. Vincent of Saginaw appears the Republican nominee in the eighth district. unofficial returns show a very close finish with William M. Smith of St. Johns. Full county tallies indicate Vincent leads by about 111 votes, with margins varying by county before official results confirm the winner. The edition notes minor tabulation errors and cites totals from Sumner, Shiawassee, Clinton, Gratiot, Montcalm, Ionia, and Totula counties.
