American Industry Leads in Alberta Trip Report

Mr and Mrs Hooper return from a three week Alberta tour visiting Edmonton Bruce and Monton area. Hooper, 25, manages the Marshall Wells Edmonton branch with 137 employees. He notes high Northwest prices long summer days and deep winter cold. He cites water quality costs of living and rapid local growth including many banks and languages in schools. Reciprocity and urban factory growth are discussed with emphasis on American influence.

GUT BY BARBED WIRE INJURY TO BOY NEAR ALMA

Howad Pettitt's seven year old son, running after his father as he drew dirt for a scavation, ran into a barbed wire trace and cut his lip. Seven stitches were needed and the doctor said the boy will have a small permanent scar. The incident occurred about two and a half miles north and two west of Alma.

Supreme Court Justice Charles A Blair Dies in Lansing

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Charles A Blair died suddenly at his Lansing home on August 20 from heart failure after a period of ill health. Born April 14, 1854 in Jackson, he was the son of War Governor Austin Blair and served as attorney general before joining the court. He was 76 and survived by his widow Effie C North and two children George F and Helen Marie. funeral plans were to be announced with interment at Jackson after services.

Rev Mark Marshall Passes Through City for Pow Paw Mission

Rev Mark Marshall formerly connected with local colleges and churches traveled through the city last Saturday morning en route to Pow Paw to resume duties at the Firer Presbyterian church after a month’s vacation. A Toledo excursion carried 400 people from Grariescoms to the Ohio city, marking one of the year’s orderly and well conducted trips to enter the Pick eye city.

Rural Carriers Get Salary Increase and Leave Benefit

Postmaster General Hitchcock raises rural letter carrier salaries from 1000 to 1100 dollars a year, affecting about 10 000 carriers with proportional raises on shorter routes. The order takes effect September 30 and adds roughly 4 million dollars in annual disbursements. A new 15 days paid leave after twelve months service is also directed, costing about 50 000 dollars yearly.

Delavan Reception for Mr and Mrs Delavan

Ladies of the city hosted a reception at the Misses Delwane home on Monday afternoon from two to four thirty to honor Mr and Mrs Delavan who sail September 18 from New York City for their winter home. In the receiving line were the Delavan siblings and Mr and Mrs Delavan. Refreshments were provided by Miss Bernice Walker with Mesdames Rahlke and Rhodes assisting. A delightful time was had and the couple received congratulations from all guests.

Brainerd Hospital Notes Highlight Unusual Vacancy

Notes report no patients at Brainerd Hospital for several months, an unusual condition given it is normally full. Miss Ida Cooper returned Tuesday morning for a month's vacation with relatives at Ithaca and Toledo. Robert Cowk left Monday for Chicago.

Alma couple wed in Ann Arbor ceremony at Cone home

Paul Delavan of Alma married Miss Jessie Ben Oliel of Ann Arbor in a Friday ceremony at the Cone home on Monroe Street. Rev W O Raymond officiated. Guests included families from Alma Chicago Detroit and Chelsea with a reception to follow. The couple depart for South America September 14 for La Plata Argentina where Delavan will lead a department at the university observatory.

Donald Smith Takes Lakes Trip with Col Hitchcock

Donald Smith son of Mr and Mrs Kern Smith returned to Alma Monday after a pleasant water trip. He met Colonel Hitchcock of Alpena at Conway and joined a Mackinac Island excursion visiting Niagara Falls Lewiston and other cities aboard the City of Cleveland on the D C line. Hitchcock a retired Alpena capitalist hosted the journey as Donald’s guest.

The League of Michigan Municipalities met in Ludington on August 28 20 with mayors and officials present. One of August’s prettiest weddings took place at Mrs. Helen Steele’s Elwell home as Miss Paul fine M. Steele married Ray Vandermark with Rev. J H Wilcox officiating. Frost Threat to Potatoes as Michigan Prospects Rise

Michigan likely to harvest about 110000 bushels of potatoes this year according to WH Buckley a local dealer. Wexford county should see roughly 74000 more bushels than last year with good quality tubers and full hills.
