The Gratiot County Republican slate highlights Frais J. Dodds for district representative and rival candidates Aman and J. Chambers, with probate judge Seaver and treasurer Harvey Manson among affirmed incumbents. Sheriff candidate John H. Parrish and county clerk Richard K. Hughes are emphasized for continued public service and election support.
Alma volunteers organize a state wide aid campaign for northern Michigan fire victims. The fund clothing and provisions, with dozens of young ladies collecting on street corners and at 64 State Street. donations of money, goods, and volunteers mobilize amid a community call to action.
The wedding of Miss Melon Scattergood of this city to Mr Murray Kellogg of Hillsdale occurred Wednesday morning October 2 at the home of the bride’s parents Rev Williams of St Johns Church led the ceremony beneath autumn leaves. A five course breakfast followed and the couple left for St Louis and Chicago. Mr Kellogg, a Hillsdale County native, and Miss Scattergood, long in Ithaca and Alma, received many congratulations. Gifts included silver gold and cut glass from relatives and friends. Attendance included out of town guests from Hillsdale Saginaw Reading and St Johns.
Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Crites age 4 died at her Perris township home on October 10 1908. Survived by six children J J Crites of Rallo Mo Eve Smith and Blanch Morris of Samer Nile B and Ernest B Crites of Ferris township one brother two sisters eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Burial scheduled Thursday October 18.
Doris Mary Belbeck, one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs John Belbeck, died after drinking gasoline found in a small can while playing in the house. Efforts to save her were fruitless. Funeral was held Sunday.
E Oswald a leading business man collapsed Monday afternoon while in his store with his wife. He exclaimed a blood vessel has broken in my head and has remained flat with an acute headache. His condition remains precarious.
Belle Bi Gitwon of Riverdale widow of Elbert W Giteon receives 35.4 months of payments for each of her children and 8 months for herself as part of a Carnegie Hero program honoring local rescuers. Gitwon risked her life January 11, 1407 while attempting to save Merry Vallance from drowning. Vallance died in the incident.
Miss Kate Newhit returned to her home in St Louis Wednesday. Miss Maud Hooper recovered well after an appendectomy, and Mrs Reuben Cummings underwent an appendicitis operation Tuesday and is getting along very nicely.
A historical fundraising plea urges Western Division Republicans to donate one dollar each to support Taft and Sherman, detailing campaign costs from printing to telegraphers. It lists state finance chairmen and addresses, including Upham in Chicago, as recipients for contributions and official receipts.
About 150 attendees at Hunck's hall Riverdale hear PF H Rowland Seville representative of the Republican county committee and Mr Newkirk speak for an hour praising Michigan Republican progress and Taft while contrasting Bryan as a dreamer. An informal reception at Odd Fellows hall precedes the gathering with refreshments. officials travel from Sumner to Ithaca and St. Louis before Alma.
The Davenport Daily Times notes Mrs Worcester will perform at the Alma Opera House on Thursday evening November 5. Tickets are 50 cents, with every seat to be sold. The write up praises her strength, virility for a woman, perfect technique, and rare shading and coloring.

Mr J W Barron of this city occupied the Congregational pulpit at Stanton Sunday October 1. A letter from J Pierson of that city praises his sermon stating the people valued having him in their pulpit and that he left a lasting impression for the Master.
On Tuesday evening Judge Septions J. Hanna gave an instructive talk to a large audience. W A Bahlke introduced Judge Hanna who spoke for over an hour and provided many helpful insights into the primer files of Free Christian Science.
Si1 Miller, once the neighborhood dealer, returns to business. He connects a new shop to Miller Bros. and offers a fine line of high grade shoes. His comeback is described as a lively addition to Alma Rend’s commerce with a large ad promising better goods.
