Sugar Factory Opening Signals Start of Campaign

Ed Slussar former publisher of the Manecloya Herald, a well known southern Michigan newspaper man, lost his arm last Saturday after falling under a train at Trout Lake Junction while changing cars with Ex-Congressman William Messick. He had been traveling to North Dakota to investigate land matters. The accident left his arm severed four inches below the elbow. Slussar has many friends in the congressional district who offer sympathy.

Bettie Lawson Pitt Obituary Follows Michigan Life Of Temperance Advocate
Bettie Lawson Pitt, born March 1845 in Northville Wayne County Michigan, married William T butt Macrh 41h then settled in Holly. She joined the Baptist church early and joined the Red Ribbon Temperance Movement, later active in W C T U Gratiot county. The couple moved to Forest Hill then a Seville farm, with two years at Ithace. She attended Center schoolhouse services and helped build a nearby church. She presided over Gratiot county W C T U and stayed busy sorting beach es until illness. She died September 28 after a severe headache, surrounded by mourners at the Center churchyard. She leaves a husband a daughter Mrs Gell Shon six grandchildren three sisters and many friends. Her burial was at the Center churchyard amid flowers and tributes from Sevillé Lemner Farmers club Maccabees of Elwell Gleaner Ald hoelety Center church Aid society and others. The Center school children and neighbors remember her as a devoted wife mother and friend.
