W Hayes visited Port Huron Saturday and Sunday.
A road adaptation of The Great Divide, after long New York runs, draws large business as one of the era’s better class plays. The New York Commercial critic calls the performance an agreeable surprise and notes its limited prior regional exposure.
The Michigan State Sunday School association announces its annual convention to be held in Benton Harbor from November 12 to 14, 1913. Marion Lawrence and Mrs. Mary Foster Bryner of the International S. S. association will speak, with Tullar and Meredith directing music. Evening sessions will take place in Graham Morton’s new warehouse between St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, seating 2600. Postal requests will receive a program.
Herbert Montague superintendent of the Michigan Masonic Tome and Mrs Montague returned from an eastern trip via Philadelphia Atlantic City and Washington D C The party attended the Aald Masonic degree for Dr Hume of Owosso and C B Chatfield of Bay City They visited the Pennsylvania Masonic Home Elizabethtown and toured the grounds One thousand acres support the Home A follow up visit in Washington included time with Congressmen Fordney and Hamilton and others
The rummage sale hosted by the ladies of the Church of Christ has been postponed until further notice. No new date is provided at this time.
Last Saturday Miss Hat tie Mills entertained sixteen young ladies at a miscellaneous shower for Miss Loretta Clum. Guests sewed useful articles, gave gifts, and enjoyed pink and white decorations and refreshments.
Ann Arbor Railroad announces a new timetable with north and south departures. Key northbound times include 5 55 am and 7 20 am and 10 57 am and 1 06 pm and 5 18 pm. The motor car north at 4 54 am will operate to Mt Pleasant only.
Saga H. C. Richardson and family plan to settle in Saginaw. They leave Alma after eight years of active social religious and financial life here. Their residence at 1404 South Jefferson Street has been prepared for occupancy. Bean dealers met in Saginaw to discuss crops and markets with W. P. Cash J. W. Working and W. Swope attending. Market last week stood at 1.80 dollars per bushel.
Beginning Sunday Octobersth the evening services in the various city churches will commence at seven o'clock The young people's services will begin at six o'clock and the midweek service held Thursday evening will also begin at seven o'clock These hours will continue during the winter months.
Tickets are on sale for the College Concert Course under the Alma Choral Club. Marian Green, Alfred Calzin, and Hugo Kortachak headline with Miss Pollen iler. Dates October 20 and November 10, 1.50 for course tickets. Subscriptions required by October 5 or contract cancellations. Reservations at Rhodes, discounts for members.
Duplicates of the Santa Maria Pin ta and Nina, built for the 1898 Chicago World’s Fair, travel to San Francisco for the Panama Exposition and stop in Toledo for one week starting October 2. They are the first vessels to pass the Panama Canal. the exhibit may be viewed by October 5 and 8 travelers on the Ann Arbor excursion. The anchor of the original Santa Maria is aboard Number 447.
Schedule lists Oct games for several colleges including Alma and Notre Dame with venues in Alma Lansing and Ann Arbor. Also notes a social event in Grand Rapids area where Miss Laura Brown hosted card night for Misses Stella Davis and Mildred Shane.
U S Civil Service examinations will be held in Alma on October 25 1913 for the position of rural mail carrier in Gratiot county A vacancy exists on the Elm Hall route Civic Improvement League meets the first Friday of every month October meeting set for 3 oclock in the Free Reading Room on Woodworth avenue
The Epworth League at the Methodist church hosted a farewell gathering for Rev. and Mrs. W. E. Doty last Wednesday, with Charades and refreshments. Clifford Cummings praised their four years of service, and a silk umbrella gift was presented to the departing pastor as Mrs. Doty was ill and unable to attend.
Win OConnell of Perrinton was seriously injured when a car driven by William Beardsley of Perrinton plunged into a ditch near Ithaca. OConnell suffered a crushed shoulder while the other occupants survived without injuries.
Last Thursday Alma Auto Truck Co. with Superintendent F. W. Ruggles arranged a ride for eighteen Alma teachers. Chauffeur Albert Knapp drove to Miss Pinney's home near Ithaca for a melon feast then returned home. Teachers praised the ride and hospitality. The nine teen load demonstrated the truck's touring car speed, a note for potential buyers.
The Detroit Free Press reports the Ann Arbor road plans a major development push including rebuilding the loyal Frontenac hotel at Frankfort on the Lake, opening Crystal Beach resort at Crystal Lake Toledo, and developing Lakeland Whitmore Lake and other points. G A Weller will lead the new department starting October 1 to promote farm lands industries and agricultural education and seek state and federal cooperation.
The Alma State Savings bank unveiled remodeled quarters in the former Independent Cash Grocery building after a large crowd toured the facilities. Directors and officers hosted guests, with visitors to see the lobby, ladies room, customers area, directors room, and record office, plus a look at a 14 page bank growth record. Notable attendees included bankers from Lapeer Flint and Detroit, and a dinner at the Wright House accompanied the opening.
The development on Crystal lake plans 140 acres of woodlands and hills featuring 6500 feet of white sand beach. A renowned landscape artist will design expansive drives and avenues for the property in the middle west.
M E Church notes announce services on Sunday October 5 1913. Morning worship at 10:00 led by new pastor Rev TG R Brown with music by Theo Amsbury and T A Pannell. Rally Day on October 5 invites all members to attend Sunday school 11:30 and Epworth League at 6:00 with Frank Parker teaching. Evening service at 7:00 features a sermon by the pastor. Mid week service Thursday at 7:00.
Starting Sunday October 5 the choral vesper service at St John's Episcopal Church will be held at five o'clock in the afternoon instead of the usual seven o'clock time, beginning in the coming year.
Store hours of J. Cohen & Bro. will be shut from Friday evening October 10 at five until Saturday evening October 11 at five for the Young Kipper observance. Also note that Mr and Mrs Ransom Allen of Ithaca visited Jotham Allen and family in the city Sunday.

The Baptist Church announces a morning service at 10 o clock and an evening service at 7 o clock starting next Sunday. The BY P U plans a reception for young people at the pastor's home, 802 Gratiot Avenue, on Wednesday night. Lyceum course tickets available now at banks and drug stores.
