Mrs. O K Brewer awoke to a dog barking and noticed hides missing from the Brewer market valued around 50 dollars. A man, Welch, was later found selling the hides, leading to sheriff involvement and an arrest after a pursuit. The Cuero city council confirmed J M Montigel as Third Ward alderman to fill the vacancy created by Charles Waal’s resignation. Mayor McKinney appointed Montigel after a special committee reviewed treasurer books and recommended him for the post. John Chick was chosen to succeed Charles Waal as alderman of the Third Ward after Waal left the First Ward.
Gratiot County Gas company caps coke prices to match hard coal locally. Due to late coke supply, government price hikes were dodged. From December 1 coke set at 10 per ton, after December 15 higher grade coke at 10 per ton matching anthracite, expected to hold through winter. Daily output about eight tons. orders taken one day ahead. Some soft coal may be sold to ease fuel shortage when possible.
