Ex-pros Attorney W A Leet Faces Divorce Suit

Gratiot area friends read in the Grand Rapids News that former congress candidate W A Leet has filed for divorce from Mrs Leet in Portland Oregon. The report says Leet grew enamored with a grass widow in the West after years as a lawyer and prosecutor in Tlhas and Lansing. Mrs Leet also practiced law, and both have wide circles of acquaintances in the region who will sympathize.

Sumner Farmers Institute Announces December Program

Knights of Pythias Meeting Set for December 7

Fitz James Lodge Knights of Pythias plans a December 7 meeting where Ithaca lodge will confer Page, St Louis confer Knight, with Ithaca St Louis and Mt Pleasant invited. Grand Chancellor Fred Wetmore of Cadillac to attend. A reception by the Pythian Sisters will follow lodge work.

Tax Homestead Lands and Forestry Plans in State

Blaze at Saginaw injures two houses and damages contents

The Saginaw Courier Herald reports a fire at the rear wing of the Trask residence owned by Mina Kate Mahaney, with J. J. Speed in attendance. Damage estimated between 500 and 600 dollars to the building and its contents. Speed, visiting director C. O. Trask, remained to aid firemen. A second small fire at Speed’s home on South Jefferson avenue caused about 25 dollars in damage after a faulty fireplace construction. скорость

Died at Hot Springs Former Alma resident passes away

John Kay, former resident of Alma, died at Hot Springs last Friday night and was buried in New Orleans. He was a member of Alma Tent K. O. T. M. No. 404 and earlier worked as a sugar boiler at the Sugar Factory in Alma.

The Alma city council held an adjourned meeting on November 28 with Mayor N F McClinton presiding. Alds Oxden Russell Day Fullerton and Viiet present. They approved journal, authorized purchase of furnace coal, and listed numerous bills for General, Highway, and Water funds including salaries, supplies, and utilities. The session adjourned with clerk and mayor signatories.

The Mt Pleasant Enterprise reports eighty five Odd Fellows rode a special Ann Arbor railroad train to Alma on Monday. They were welcomed by Daughters of Rebekah who organized a late supper and convivial dancing. The event strengthened neighborly ties between Mt Pleasant and Alma as members returned to Mt Pleasant after a late night of fellowship.

Sharrar Sentenced After Liquor Case Pleas

George Sharrar was sentenced by Judge Sears last Saturday to twenty days in jail and a fine plus costs after a guilty verdict on liquor law violations. An appeal to the Supreme Court was planned with attorney actions to seek a stay of proceedings and a writ of error. Sharrar to give bonds for appearance as both sides await the higher court’s review.
