The Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co warns of winter fire risks from neglect in tool and stove use. Readiness tips include chimney checks, removing old stove pipes, clearing cobwebs and nests, keeping fabrics away from pipes, closing dampers, securing stove pipes, and avoiding matches near barns. Also cautions against smoking near barns and proper handling of tank heaters.
John Schwartz completed a cement block machine for making brittle stone. The unit, his invention, forms blocks from 12 inches down to 4 inches, with quick size changes and a core removal feature to prevent cracking. The block is then released by a mechanical ejector, simplifying operation and promising strong sales once marketed.

The Post Office Department set December 5 as the start date for rural free delivery to every country home in Gratiot County. In less than five years opinion shifted from concern over cost to support for the system with 50 routes already operating.
The executive committee prepared programs for the state gathering and will distribute copies free to each society. Edward P. Landesy of Saginaw will forward reports and discuss growth and organization. The movement began in 1884 and has expanded to over 1,800 societies with about 40,000 members statewide.
