Residents decry two weeks of mud on main streets as worse than neighboring towns. Calls for action with plans discussed by business men to gravel or pave with brick for three blocks, comparing bonded debt to Saint Louis and Ithaca. Ten thousand dollars urged for next year to secure lasting benefits.
The Methodist Sunday school held its annual Thanksgiving program with the Sunday school orchestra and the college mandolin group led by Prof. F. F. Bradley. A quartet including OC E Pettyjohn and others sang Abide With Me. Miss Addie Blumberg’s class delivered a Thanksgiving prayer and Ira Sulter recited Whittier. EB Mason of the 33d Michigan shared Cuba and Santiago reminiscences in place of the absent Dr Walla. The program was highly praised.
The undersigned pledge to refund the money on two 25 cent bottles of Baxter's Mandrake Bitters if it fully cures constipation billousness sick headache and related diseases. They also refund 60 cent bottles of Downs' Elixir if it fails to cure cough cold croup whooping cough or throat or lung difficulty. A 2 cent bottle of either item is offered to prove satisfaction or money refunded.
An old advertisement asserts Foley's Kidney Cure by Bivins and Anopgs as a reliable treatment for kidney and bladder issues. It emphasizes honesty and recognition by skilled physicians without claiming a cure-all.
Entertainment in the chapel features the Sweet Family with a mandolin opener, Romeo and Juliet by McCabe and Mills, and burlesque and musical acts by Miss Nordram and daughters. Notable mentions go to Miss Noerarum, Miss Smith, and Miss Humphrey. About $20 raised for pew chairs in the dining room.
