Teachers of Gratiot County Meet at Alma College
The sixty first semiannual meeting of the Gratiot County Teachers Association was held in the college chapel on Friday and Saturday November first and fourth with Supt A P Cook of Ithaca presiding. Despite bad weather the chapel was well filled as teachers shared ideas on improving rural schools and teacher preparation. Discussions covered history teaching, school libraries, examinations, literature, and the need for literary development. The Friday night program included a piano solo and a talk by Supt E C Thompson on brains and bread. Saturday featured papers on the educational dollar geography truancy law literature and penmanship. The group adjourned to watch the Alma Kalamazoo football game for inspiration.

Alma college football team and Kalamazoo played to a stubborn 5 to 5 draw after a hard fought first half in Alma. Fuller and Hoag scored for Alma and Kalamazoo, with a late defensive stand as both teams failed to convert extra points. Officials were Waterbury and Knox. Next, Alma travels to Ann Arbor to face the Varsity reserves.

Kennedy’s Alma street work praised as near completion
One year after major improvements the town honors D J Kennedy for street, sewer, and factory project work. He has employed up to 120 men with a monthly payroll around $2,500, contributing to local contracts including the sugar factory. Mrs Mary Lurindy Richardson, maiden name Richard son, dies at her Alma home after a long consumptive illness at age thirty one years eleven months and twenty eight days. She married A W Cohoon twelve years ago last October and leaves five children. Funeral at two o'clock in the Baptist church with W K Spencer officiating. burial planned at Riverside Cemetery.
