Alma and Olivet clash in season finale football game

Ollvet wins 12 to 6 after a hard fought contest on a firm field. Harbert drops the decisive kick and Morrison and Thomas starred for Olivet while McCollum, Casterlin and Helmer led Alma in a closely contested match. Referees Tamberling and Betts officiated. Gratiot Pioneer John Wolford Dies at 63 in 1906

John Wolford born September 1, 1843 in Jet County New York died November 1906 at age 63. He moved to Indiana then Cayuga and Gratiot counties, settled in New Haven Township, served in Co K 21st Michigan Infantry under Sherman, fought at Chattanooga Bentonville and the March to the Sea, wounded March 29 1865, discharged May 1865. He married Emily A Dean in 1866 and left four children Judson I Irish Cora V Wolford Jesse R and Elsie I. he suffered a stroke in 1862 and never fully recovered.

Hodge v City of St Louis Supreme Court Decision

The Missouri Supreme Court overruled a verdict for plaintiff in the Hodge v City of St Louis case due to improper argument by attorney Whitney. Eight justices held the verdict should have been directed for the city because of contributory negligence, resulting in no damages to be paid.

The church notes a near doubling of the primary department in the past month with modern kindergarten methods and enthusiastic children. Ralph McNitt gave a pleasing selection last Sunday, Mel Nitt led singing, and the choir will offer special music each Sunday evening.
