The forty second annual meeting will be in the Senate Chamber Lansing on May 24 and 26 1916. Alma Defeats Oliver and Halts Hillsdale Tilt on Rainy Diamond
Alma beat Oliver seven to three in a late start Wednesday and two pitchers faltered in a 13 inning seven seven tie with Hillsdale Friday. Ed Johnston hurled a strong game and the crowd saw notable hitting with French, Johnston, Sherman and Drake contributing. Darkness ended the Hillsdale contest after 13 innings and a lengthy day on the local diamond.

First State Bank Opens Alma Branch With New Building
The First State Bank of Alma formally opened its new building last Wednesday with a large crowd touring the modern facilities. Carl Washburn supervised the opening as cashier while Medler's orchestra performed, and a Wright House bourbon reception followed. The bank, dating to 1880, now reports capital of 50,000 and total resources of 750,000, and showcases a treasure of rooms including ladies and men’s lounges, a directors’ room, a library, and complete telephone systems for customer use.

Disorderly conduct arrests and charges reported in Ithaca area
In Ithaca, Charles Blakely of Evert was arrested for disorderly conduct after a struggle with Night Watch Coleman. Blakely was fined 10.25 dollars after a morning hearing before Justin Salter. Albert Lefere of Flint was held for larceny for taking 76 dollars from his brother and returned to Flint with Sheriff Green. Otto Morrow Ingle and Otto Culp of St. Louis were arrested in Bay City for adultery. Culp’s wife could not post bail, and she remained jailed in Ithaca awaiting Friday examination.

Beet Case Verdict Against Michigan Sugar Co enjoyed
The circuit court at Ithack wrapped up this week with a jury awarding Coe and Michner 3760.00 against Michigan Sugar Co. The dispute arose over Menars Coe and Michael alleging a batch of beers was unfit for market and the company refused to take them. The case will proceed to the supreme court.

Born 1846 in Richland township Wyandotte County Ohio, son of George and Lesh Willard Zimmerman, he married Mary Allmaugher and had a daughter Anna. His wife died 1908, later married Fatmie Perkins. survivors include four brothers, a sister, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral May 5 at Sainte Church Hamilton. Interment Hamilton cemetery. Marshal J. Mes of North Star died May 6 at age 70 years 10 months 26 days. Born Mt Vernon Ohio, son of George and Hannah Hair Mes. Funeral May 6. Biscuit Contest At Local High School Held Friday
The 7A domestic science class will host a baking powder biscuit contest in their office on Friday May 12 with judges Miss Minna Greer Mise Meevinger and Rev W H Mason. Hot biscuits and maple syrup will be served for five cents. A cake contest follows next week. Miss Mary Redman entertained the Standard Bearers at Woodworth Avenue last Tuesday with a social hour and refreshments.

Alma man George G Holiday dies at age 76
Geo G Holiday longtime Alma resident and Civil War veteran died at his home last Thursday night at 76. He was born in New London Ohio in 1840, taught school, and served in the war before moving to Alma. He leaves two daughters Mrs John Chick and Mrs John Grover, a brother Dr FE Holiday of Wellington Ohio, and was a founder of Alma. Funeral services were held at his house last Sunday led by Rev W H Mason with G Wright singing.
