Alma citizens discuss concerts at College Hall and a major fire at a local residence. Local news mentions visits by Mrs Ireland and Speaker N Church, tree planting, repairs by Pollasky and Kelso, and upcoming Inez Pereire Company performances at Pollasky’s Hall with Miss Steven singing. Plans include athletic events, church activities, and street improvements.
A local advertisement promotes a Linen Sale on May 15 featuring the Handsome line of Fine Summer Dress Goods at greatly reduced prices. Men’s Fine Hand Sewed Shoes priced at $5.00 cut down to $4.50 in calf and fine kangaroo leathers.
Reopened notice states the Woolen Mill, closed two years, has been leased to Geo Moore of Easex Co Ontaw, a veteran in the trade with forty years experience. Moore will open the mill and have it running by the 20th, offering carding, spinning, weaving and other custom work and seeks local trade support. M Th Paughner returns from Canada with machinery to start flax seed manufacturing. He has imported pure seed from Tolland Germany and will supply farmers free seed under a written contract to buy all grown, paying $10 per ton. Expected yields of 2.5 to 3 tons per acre could bring $25 to $30 per acre. Seed ready by the 24th. farmers urged to participate as two thirds of Canadian crops are flax and profit is evident.
