Funeral Held For C L Wood 45 Of Alma

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p m at the Presbyterian Church for C L Wood who lived on Second Street in Alma He died after a five day illness following a stroke He was born in Cohocton New York in 1865 and lived in Alma since age twenty three He is survived by his wife Winnie E Sweet and three children Harold C Wilma and Donna plus other relatives The service featured a sermon by E B Ulery of Port Huron and music by the Wright quartette pallbearers were Dewitt Vought Frank Smith I K Mills Chas Fishbeck Wm Medlar and Herbert Becker.

Alma Council Proclaims Glass as Presiding Pro Tem for Year

The Alma Michigan Common Council convened May 2 in council rooms with Mayor N F McClinton presiding. Aldermen Glass Fuller Soule Russell Fuller ton Fraker formed a quorum. Glass received four votes and Fuller one to serve as president pro tem for the ensuing year. John Greig named street and water commissioner. confirmation process noted with yeas and nays.

Alma High School Debating Society Holds Banquet

Members of Alma High School debating society hosted twenty four young men and their ladies at a banquet in the high school funding last Friday evening. The event featured a music filled social hour, a square V shaped feast in the physical laboratory, and toasts led by Prof. Ellsworth with "Our Boys" and "Our Girls" followed by numerous topics including Athletic Association and Four years of high school life. The annual banquet tradition continues as a yearly event.

Track Team Defeats Mt Pleasant At Davis Field

The college track team beat Mt Pleasant Normal on Davis Field Friday afternoon with a score of 146 to 58. Alma’s McComb won four events including three dashes and the discus, while Mt Pleasant’s Richards claimed four firsts. Gage surprised by finishing second in the high hurdles after no practice, and freshman VanDuren beat a senior in the mile.

Dr Duff Dead in St Louis A Founding State Veterinarian

Dr T G Duff died at his home after a stroke last week and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in St Louis. He had recovered enough to be about town recently and was a former president of the State veterinary association. Eight five Masons attended the funeral and floral offerings signified high esteem.

The Silver Medal Contest hosted by the Woman's Christian Temperance Union occurs Friday evening at Alma Baptist Church. Church Decorated by Ladies Aid for Spring Repair

The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church has cleaned and redecorated the church interior. A force of decorators tore up seats and carpets, erected scaffolding, and had ceilings and walls tinted pink while woodwork was varnished. New carpet was laid over the week, with services held at United Brethren during painting.

The Kalamazoo league baseball team of the Southern Michigan league aims to sign Sandy Gitscannen, regarded as the state’s top college pitcher, for the coming season. Manager Charlie Wagner has long had his eye on Sandy, who began by helping Alma College defeat Michigan and win the state intercollegiate title. If he signs with Kazoo, he will reunite with old schoolmate Pat Graham of Cass City, Sandy’s hometown. Graham played well for Kazoo last year and is unrelated to Octy Graham.
