A large audience heard five speakers from local Young People's Societies discuss temperance topics at the M E church. J Christensen urged personal duty and sympathy for drinkers, O E Scott analyzed liquor power in politics, Miss Reid addressed heredity and environment in the inebriate, W F Knox linked temperance to social reform, and W J Carrel outlined tactics to win the battle against saloons. The program included music and hymns.

Local Veterinarian Hails From Detroit College Honors
R E Hunt recent veterinary graduate of the Detroit College of Medicine plans to settle in Alma and handle all kinds of domestic animal care. He also studied at the University of Pennsylvania and the Michigan University school of bacteriology, consistently ranking top in classes. Hunt earned the college gold medal for highest overall achievement and passed an oral exam of 160 questions without error. He has practiced at Vindet stock farm in Mercer county Illinois and in Three Rivers and Jackson. References for employment include J W Holmes and Dr Bagley.

The sudden death of Mrs Adelaide V Marchmont at age 48 on Monday morning 14th followed a long illness. She collapsed from heart failure while working at home. Funeral services were held at her house and the body sent to Exeter Ontario for interment. Her church work and kindness made her a beloved figure in St John’s church and in the community.
