A gang of expert safe blowers raided several local businesses last Monday night. The Alma Elevator office safe was blown open with nitro glycerine, suspected to involve a skeleton key. about $30 was taken from the bank. other targets included Home Lumber & Fuel and Pollucky Hide House with minor damage and windows forced. Sheriff Gyedford and Deputy Wheelar investigated but no clues yet.

Obituary of Jule Horter Amabury of Alma Michigan

Jule Horter Amabury born March 13 1876 in eerfield Michigan died March 7 1916 at the country home near Alma after long illness. She moved to Gratiot county as a child joined the Elwell Methodist church at fifteen and remained a faithful worker. She married Fred Amabury in 1890 and had two daughters Laura and Doris. The family moved to Alma eleven years ago where she joined the Methodist church by letter and was active in the Ladies Aid Home Missionary Society and the Kings Workers Sunday school class. She resided two miles west of Alma with her health failing yet she bore suffering bravely and died with hopeful assurance. She leaves a husband two daughters six sisters two brothers and her parents. Many flowers honored her life. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev T G B Brownlow and others with hymns Savior Pilot Me and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Burial was in Riversale Cemetery Alma Michigan.
