Fire damages two houses on Park and Bridge avenues
A Saturday morning blaze at M J McPhee's Park avenue home caused roof damage before firefighters stopped spread to lower rooms. Neighbors moved furniture saving about 150 dollars. no insurance. Arcada Hotel owner Mayes estimates 800 to 1000 dollar loss, insured. McPhee family now at Mrs Oswald's on FE Superior street. A separate attic fire on Wednesday at George Thompson's Bridge avenue house started from a chimney and was confined to the upper floor.

Sudden Death Struck Neighbor Before Surprise Visit
Last Friday evening Mr. Lotis Strauss planned a surprise for Simon Oberlin with neighbors at Mr and Mrs George Webbs home. While entering, Strauss collapsed and died within five minutes. He had recently been in poor health in Alma. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Forest Hill church with burial at St Louis.

High School Fair Exceeds Previous Efforts At Benefit Event
Tom Cooper and fellow students organized a school fair at the High school to aid the athletic association. Freshmen served snacks while the sophomore class operated a merry go square. Juniors offered Eats and decorations, seniors staged a popular play featuring John Ludwig and others, and the Alma Military Band provided music. The museum displays attracted patrons as the event netted 135 dollars for the treasury.
