Gordon wins state oratorical contest at Alma opera house

Robert Gordon of Kalamazoo won the state oratorical contest at the Alma opera house last Friday night with The College Man's Mission. Second place went to Clare Parsons of Olivet, third to Emerson O. Gildart of Albion, and other finalists included George D. Ene of Alma, Miss Gertrude Peters of M.A., Hope College’s A Judson Kolyn, Clark Robinson of Adrian, R. S. Coldren of Hilldale, Alfred the Great by Julius Moeller, and Alfred the Great’s theme noted. prize and upcoming interstate trip detailed. maple sugar production noted with 19 barrels tapped from Postmaster Brown’s sugar bush.

The Methodist board in Gratiot County plans a gold jubilee banquet at the Sanitarium on Thursday evening April 1 to welcome the first circuit rider.
