Commencement week activities at Alma College

Commencement week opened with a farewell communion at the college chapel led by Rev. Louis S. Brooke of Howell. The afternoon featured the annual address for Y M C A and the graduating class with an alumnus delivering the sermon, followed by the baccalaureate service. President Braske preached on conquering evil and loving humanity, citing biblical figures and stressing cultivation of the love faculty. Monday saw Roy Mt Parr of Detroit address the Commercial department graduates on being a thoroughbred. Class Day featured parodies and scenes from college life, with humorous sketches and a sermon for juniors by Fred Souls, and the Seniors receiving the class hat and jug. The Music Building recital highlighted young talent despite stormy weather, and President and Mrs. Bruske hosted a Senior class reception with speeches and reminiscences.

Mix and wife plan pleasure trip through Canada and New York

Jeff Mowlay and his wife, residents of Alma, Michigan, will begin a pleasure trip from their city to Niagara Falls, the St. Lawrence River, and Quebec, then to Montreal and New York City for a few weeks before returning to Michigan in midsummer. During their time in Alma, the Mixes have made many friends who regret they will be away. Mr Mix came from Missoula, Montana on September 20, 1905, and took over management of the Mima Springs Sanitarium on October 10. A change in ownership later led to a management shift and Mr Mix will pursue one of several offered business openings.

Charles Coleman Dead in Wheeler Michigan

Charles Clinton Coleman born in Ontario Wisconsin September 44 1895 died at Wheeler Michigan Friday June 8 after throat trouble developed into tuberculosis. He married Edith Angell July 17 1902 and had one daughter. Funeral held at M E church in Alma with Rev Hoag, burial in Beautiful Cemetery. Local lodge I C O F attended.

Seville and Sumner Farmers Meet At Mallory Home

The Seville and Sumner Farmers Club gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Mallorys home on Thursday night though attendance was small. A bountiful dinner followed a program covering farm organizations and other farmer topics with input from CC Wor ders WoC Mallory Rollin Wood ROR Lewis WoT and others. Mrs Thomas Harris of New Haven, a former Seville resident, traveled twelve miles to attend showing member interest. Due to Ithacas Golden Jubilee Fourth of July celebration a July meeting was canceled. the August meeting will be a basket picnic at Elwell with a planned program to be announced in the Record. The Alma Springs Sanitarium Co. has incorporated with P. Duckett of Toledo as president and general manager and Dr EP Welch as secretary-treasurer and medical superintendent. The new management began in May and is promoting the sanitarium in ads in Detroit Free Press. plans include nationwide newspaper publicity and expanded programming to attract attention and business.

Eighteenth Annual College Commencement Exercises Program

Schwartz Nelson Wedding in Alma Celebrates Edna's Union

The Schwartz home on Woodworth avenue hosted the marriage of Edna Schwartz to Mr. Nelson of Brooklyn New York. The ceremony at 2 pm featured Ruth Kelley Freda Hammer Martha Tinker Beth Hooper as ribbon bearers, Miles Kate Mair maid of honor, Rev. Wilbur Nelson officiating, and guests from Alma and distant cities. The couple will reside at 168 Cooper Street Brooklyn.

Commencement at Riverdale Draws Large Crowd

Riverdale public schools eighth and tenth graders held commencement Friday in Tal Jons Hall. The hall was lavishly decorated with evergreen and pink and green colors. Diplomas were presented by Commissioner Pike after performances by the eighth and tenth grades and a flag drill. The event featured songs, a Longfellow selection, a piano duet, and a speech on education’s duties.
