High School Cantata Ends School Year With Strong Chorus

The eighth grade performed two selections followed by the high school choir in Out on the Deep and Just a Song at Twilight. The cantata The Wreck of the Hesperus featured Alma tenor GV Wright and soloists Mrs J H McKinney and Maybee with strong choral work under Miss Cora Hearn.

Fourth of July Farmer's Picnic Organized in Alma Park

Citizens meet to appoint a committee to run a city Fourth of July celebration in Alma Park. Chariman Charles F. Brown leads the preparations with W H Parr Otto Sanderhoff and a broad roster handling advertisement reception speakers music fireworks and games. A free farmers picnic noon coffee and refreshments will be served with the Zouvaes drill team performing and a full day of activities planned.

St Johns Alma Triumphs In Central Michigan Meet And Kalamazoo Victory

Students celebrate a weekend of sports as Alma College claims the state field title at St Johns with Kress earning top points. Alma also defeats Kalamazoo in the morning, beats Olivet in the afternoon, sealing a regional championship. A victory celebration follows at Rhodes' store window with bonfires, dances, and a downtown parade. Monday night Chas Fishbeck hosts a free vaudeville show in honor of the win.

Freshman Exhibition and High School Cantata Run Parallel

A college Freshmen Exhibition in the chapel drew smaller crowds due to a Methodist church cantata chore, yet twelve numbers of recitations declamations and dialogues impressed. Notable pieces included Leon Stinchcomb and Chas Smith solos, and the final Sir Peter and Lady Teazle dialogue by Marian Rounsiter Rex Van Dur en. The high school cantata under Miss Cora Hearn with G V Wright and Sadie Messinger also drew praise.

Memorial Seriges Joint Memorial Services in Realty Opera House

Fraternal orders of the city hold joint memorial services at Realty Opera House on Sunday June 12 at 2 30 p m The program includes choir songs an invocation by G H Carl an address by Rev Frank Jackson and a benediction Afterward the orders will march to the cemetery to decorate the graves of deceased brothers Everybody invited.

Class Day Exercises at the Opera House

Class Day events include history poem prophecy and song performed at the opera house on Monday June 13 at 8 p.m. The program features a five act comedy titled She Stoops to Conquer with a cast listing Mr Hardcastle Charles Marlow and others. A small admission fee of 10 and 15 cents will be charged to cover expenses.

Ewing Attends Presbyterian Assembly at Atlantic City

Professor J Ewing and Mrs Ewing returned from Atlantic City after attending the General Assembly of the Presbyterian church. They traveled by eastern routes via Toledo Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with time for sightseeing and reported the Board Walk piers and music hall as notable. Delegates from Saginaw Presbytery included Rev Cas M Fraser. Atlantic City was chosen for the 1911 assembly.

Alma High School Wins Athletic Event at Central State Meet

Alma High School sent nine members under Supt PF Ellsworth principal Ward and Coach Ely to the central State interscholastic track meet at St Johns. A rough trip began with bad roads as Baker returned home on foot after a chain drive broke. the squad finally reached the field for competition.

Alma High School Track Meet Recap Amid Saggy Track

The meet went well despite a saggy track with the light jump described as the prettiest field event. Cooper narrowly trailed Johnston of St Louis in the relay race as Mima Ithaca and St Johnns posted top points with several events won. An automobile mishap delayed the return trip, arriving in Alma around midnight Saturday.

Alma lodge F A M seventeenth annual roundup report

Alma lodge No. 244 F A M held its seventeenth annual roundup with brethren from St Louis Sheperd and other areas. Seven candidates were initiated by 1 pm and one live victim was saved and branded before the group adjourned to a vaudette program. A banquet followed with a long menu and cigars, described as one of the best read-ups in years.

Death Comes After Operation at Saginaw Hospital

Mrs. Albert Morgan of Reed City died after a severe operation at Saginaw Maygoth hospital following months of ill health. Born Bessie Pearl Duffield in 1883, she lived in Elm Hall and Reed City, married Albert Morgan in 1904, and was to join the Baptist church before her illness. Funeral held at Ferris cemetery with Rev. H. L. Crain preaching. Survived by husband, father James Duffield, four brothers, three sisters, and many relatives.
