A prominent Michigan dairy operation, Rockingram Model Dairy Farm, is highlighted as one of the finest and best managed farms of its kind in the state.
Cold dawn opened Memorial Day as G A R members gathered at Wright cemetery Pine River to decorate graves with flowers. Afternoon programs in the opera house featured a college male quartet invocation Rev H Higgins and G A R orders. Miss Blanche Boughton read a Memorial Day essay. Col Potter praised the entry though she did not win the medal.
Report on Wright and Sprague's Rockingham dairy farm detailing 180 acres, 82 cows milking now with 19 more to calve, total cattle 115, and 50 gallons morning milk plus creamed evening milk processed via a cream separator. Describes sanitary dairy room, milking setup, ensilage feeding, and byproducts like buttermilk. Includes a steam engine for the separator and a feed mill, plus hogs fed from separator milk.
The Rockingham dairy farm is highlighted as one of the most sanitary and best managed in the state. It supplies The Hayt and Pierce Co with bottled milk and cream, serving regular trade including the Sanitorium Wright House and Bennett's cafe. Elmer Sprague, the manager and general superintendent, arrived from Mayville four years ago and transformed the operation with energy and methods.
May gathering of Arcada Farmers Club met at Mr and Mrs Goo Irish home. Discussions covered planting beans by moon phase and quilting profitability while deliberating crime wealth and poverty. Meeting voted to skip June and hold a picnic day instead.
Herbert Anderson of this place and Miss Mildred Woodard of Marion were wed at the Baptist parsonage in Ithaca on Monday. They returned to Alma Tuesday and were guests at a reception at the groom’s parents home, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Anderson, amid numerous wedding presents. Refreshments were served.
