Alma observes Memorial Day with services and address

Memorial Day events in Alma honor fallen soldiers with sermons at the Baptist church and an afternoon at the Opera House. Rev. R. T. Lyndh and Hon. Mark Brewer spoke to a packed crowd, followed by a procession to Riverside Cemetery where graves were decorated with flowers and the ritual observed.

Death of Miss Eda Walker After Farm Fire

Word from Huggins Missouri reports the death of Miss Eda Walker a former Gratiot county girl who burned after her dress caught fire while burning brush near a land cleanup her parents suffered severe burns trying to rescue her Eda was born April 16 1867 near Elm Hall she leaves a father mother and one brother and was laid to Concord cemetery in Alma residents are notified to clean alleys and remove refuse from premises by local health officer.

Faculty bicycle race and cold weather affect county meet

Decoration Day Observed at Elm Hall in Alma

A Monday Decoration Day gathering at Elm Hall featured a large crowd and an oration by Roy J. Covert of Alma praising Lincoln and urging loyalty. After the address, graves of fallen heroes were decorated. The piece also recounts Lincoln and Grant dispatch lore from Horace Porter, plus Alma College notes on students, staff, and the forthcoming Alma College Annual publication.
