Alma Troop to Train at Grayling in August
Michigan National Guard cavalry unit from Alma, Troop C, 106 Cavalry, will depart for Grayling on Thursday August 4 for a two week drill. About a hundred men will train at the camp, receiving uniforms and supplies. horses may be shipped directly to Grayling or reloaded in Alma depending on the plan.

Big Drain Nears Completion on East Superior Street
The 2200 foot East Superior Street sewer of sixteen inch tile is nearly finished. It will drain surface water from the pavement and lands to the south to Eastward street. The project covers the state trunk line road area and territory between Republic Avenue and the east county drain. Both city and state highway departments share ownership.

Death of Sgt Harry Leonard in Alma burial planned
Sgt Harry J Leonard of Company E 128th Infantry Rainbow Division died in action on July 15 1908 in France. Born September 4 1851 in Fenton Michigan he came to Alma at age six and excelled in athletics. He attended Alma High School two years Alma College and the Valparaiso School of Telegraphy. Funeral plans are pending with likely military funeral services after arrival. Also notes next teachers examination in Ithaca Michigan August 11 12 13 1921 with bulletin No 16 available.

Reports of his fate were mixed, with a 192? telegram then confirmation from Corporal Orman Eggleston describing his final days in Mozy France before his remains were prepared for shipment home.

Leo B. Wright of Pontiac was arrested by Alma city officers for violating the peddlers and hawkers ordinance. He allegedly sold aluminum ware in Alma without a license from the Pennsylvania plant. Wright, a university hopeful, was arraigned before Justice William H. Rogers, hearing set for August, and released on his own recognizance with a caution against further sales until the hearing.
