Chase and capture of George Fowler near Edmore
Deputy Sheriff Arthur Murphy chased and arrested George Fowler, a soap peddler from southern Michigan, after a two day drive across three counties. Fowler was found asleep in Charles Woods barn, arraigned in Alma, pled guilty to petty larceny, fined 40 dollars and 5 cents with costs, and jailed sixty days for failure to pay. He claimed temporary insanity due to whiskey.
