Miss Huth Cook daughter of Prof Albert and Mrs Cook was married Tuesday evening at her parents home to Darrell Hyde of Ann Arbor in a ceremony performed by Rev WL Gelston of the First Presbyterian church. The couple, well known in Alma, will live in Ann Arbor. Guests from Addison, Advance, Rudyard and others attended.
Plans in Almaville for a monument honoring local men who died in World War I proceed amid site and inscription discussions. A three foot wide field stone pillar will bear bronze tablets with the city name and deceased names. The memorial, designed to honor sacrifice, awaits a suitable site and final approval.
The annual summer conference for Sunday school workers will run from Wednesday July to Tuesday July 15 at Alma College. It aims for the largest attendance yet and seeks to train young men and women for church leadership. Noted leaders include Rev James M Barkley of Detroit and Rev James Snowden. Special features for both men and women are promised to boost interest and enhance the program.

Bay City hosts a wobbly sandlot baseball contest as the Republics rally late but fall short to an undefeated Bay team. Truckmaker pitcher Truckey Went shuts down the Republics after a strong late rally, with five runs in the ninth and two on base, sealing the Bay City win.
Gratiot county residents plan to attend a big Fourth of July celebration in St Louis. The day features a street parade with decorated autos and odd vehicles, balloon ascensions, horse races, free entertainment, fireworks, and a baseball game between Torkensen Axle of Cleveland and the Republics at 2:50 p.m. at the St Louis field.
Mise Mae Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs S M Jones was united in marriage with Clarence S Goodrich of Elsie at the parental home Monday afternoon officiated by Rev J W Priest. The ceremony was private with immediate family. A three course luncheon followed and the couple planned a short wedding trip before settling in Eleto. Mrs Goodrich has directed music and art at Alam public schools for five years. The groom is Alma College class of 1915 graduate recently returned from overseas service and now engaged in business in Elsie. Out of town attendees included Mrs Georgia Goodrich and Gladys Goodrich of Elsie and Mrs Florence Brook and Zeina Nronk of Battle Creek.
In the Middle West championship opener Murphys clubs kept pace as they split the series with Republics. The opening game featured strong hitting and solid defense from both sides, setting up a tense series ahead.
In Tuesday and Wednesday games the Murphy team split with the Republics. Olmstead pitched sharply for Murphy, delivering a two game performance as Murphy rallied with a late surge. Bell homered for Murphy in the sixth to three-run impact, while the Republics fought back on multiple occasions.
Firemen responded to a Sunday noon blaze at the Gratiot County Gas plant on East Superior street where a coke pile caught fire. William Borten spotted the flames and raised the alarm noting nearby gas tanks risked explosion. The Alma Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze with a water stream, earning praise for rapid action.
