A partial 19th century price sheet lists various staples including corn peaches pumpkins lima beans oats rice flour yeast soda lard tea and potatoes. The readable items show per unit prices and package labels with several garbled lines suggesting vendor notes or catalog entries.
A college day of prayer featured Rev P V Jenness of Bay City delivering a sermon on Christian Stewardship at nine amid scripture readings by Dr Bruske. Miss Farrell of Detroit played a moving violin solo Sweet Hour for Prayer. An afternoon union students prayer meeting drew many attendees, followed by an evening service at the Baptist church with all denominations.
Rev Fayette L Thompson spoke at the M E Church on Wednesday night about Youth Yesterday and Tomorrow as part of the Epworth League course. He praised past young leaders and warned of crime among youth while urging strong faith and justice to guide the next generation to victory. The talk held attentive listeners and was praised as the best session so far.
The Union Farmers Club of Seville and Sumner will hold an open meeting at Elwell on Wednesday afternoon February 3 to which all are invited. Program includes music, business, Clover Raising by Jothun Allen Emerson, a Q&A box, and an education address by Dr. Stiles Kennedy of St. Louis. Also notes Miss Adams ill with grippe and Miss McPherson leaving for Montreal for health.
The Adelphic literary society elected D. W. Sidebotham as president, Geo. Randalls as vice president, Wilbur Nelson as secretary, D. B. Car michael as treasurer, Henry Bash as marshal, and Watson Irwin as assistant marshal for the coming semester. A long list of campus activities follows, including class changes, recitations, and social events. Notable visitors include Miss Anna McIntyre of St. Louis and Mrs. M. E. Crowfoot of Pontiac.
From the February Review of Reviews a plea argues collateral demands on public characters are higher in this country than elsewhere. It contrasts scholarly freedom in Germany, state duties in England, and artist protection in France with American editors and public figures, urging restraint to allow meaningful effort.
Baptist observers will hear the pastor in the morning and Isaac Waxman of the college will speak on the Czar and Jewish persecution in the evening. Presbyterian minister Rev W A Davidson from Delavan Wis preaches Sunday morning with Christian Endeavor Day in the evening. UDUST revival continues with morning and evening sermons on Jesus the Light of the World and Christ the Liberator. Episcopal Fourth Sunday after Epiphany includes Sunday school at 3 20 p m and church at 7 30 p m. All invited.
