Board Supervisors Hold Special Session on County Finances

Ithaca officials met in a special session to review the county’s financial condition and demand an itemized statement from May 1908 to February 1909. Treasurer Munson must provide monthly fund balances and a detailed account list by February 8, 1909. The board plans another meeting on February 5 to continue the accounting effort.

Michigan Independent Telephone Association Convention

The annual convention will be held March 28 24 at Saginaw in the Auditorium. Many independent telephone men are members and a large attendance is expected with exhibitors and visitors. L Conn of Alma will present a paper on the value of advertising to telephone companies.

Surprise banquet honors choir leader at Presbyterian church

The Presbyterian church choir and its leader Mrs St Johns were surprised by the Ladies Aid after Saturday night rehearsal. A buffet lunch followed in the church parlors and Mrs St Johns received a $500 paree in appreciation for directing the choir composed of college students, whose work enriches church services.

Eradicating Tuberculosis in Cattle At Michigan Meeting

At Lansing last week Prof J J Ferguson of Chicago spoke on individual and state methods to eradicate bovine tuberculosis. He urged sanitary premises, health breeding, pasteurization, and state laws for isolation and compensation, noting Nebraska success and Wisconsin style measures. Governor Warner endorsed fair compensation only when farmers are not at fault.

Surprise Installation and Obituary in Alma Area

A surprise Tuesday night honored Col Geo Sonor with a ceremonial installation of Ping River Canton officers at Alma Odd Fellows. Capt Moeder presented the officer a sword as guests enjoyed a music program, a spread, and a male quartet. Samuel A. Vilet, born March 1, 19, in Clarks ton, Michigan, served in the Second Michigan Cavalry and died January 26 after paralysis followed illness. He is survived by his widow Jessie Chnesman, a son Walter C. Vilet, a daughter Mrs George W Bates, two brothers, two sisters, and many friends. Interment was in Riverside cemetery with Rev Robert Elder presiding.

Clark Thoties of Saginaw is accused of borrowing $20 from Aldrich & May of St. Louis and giving a mortgage on a horse that belonged to his wife.
