Language lessons amid upheaval in Canton and decay of roads
A letter from Paul J. Allured describes daily Cantonese language school routines five days a week and one to two hours of tone singing, living with Ren and Mrs Fisher, and plans for a new home and tennis court. He notes narrow country roads, baskets for transport, and the upheaval in China with the rebel movement at Canton, brutalities of the tarter force, and a grim cutting day. The tone blends humor and grave concern for the Chinese struggle and hopes for peaceful resolution.
