County Law Supports Funds for Indigent Burials

The county board faces debate over funding indigent burials under Act 142 Public Acts of Michigan. Records show bodies must go to an undertaker within 30 hours, and then to a designated medical school or facility for burial, with relatives retaining rights to claim remains. The Record believes modest county funding could cover annual indigent burial costs, estimating about eight cases yearly and total yearly expenses under 1,000 dollars.
