Traverse City purchases a new five year old gelding team weighing 2426 pounds from Pompeii Gratiot county. Tom Shane and Oscar Simpson supplied the horses which arrived yesterday and are being trained with fire trucks. The team will replace the old black horses nearing retirement after many years of service.

Old Pioneer Gone Beath Claimed Mrs Gordis Smith
Miss Badger, born in Warh asste country New York on April 1 1838, died Friday after a long illness in Pine River township. She was married to Gordis Smith after Elijah B Rice's death and is survived by her husband. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev Gen F Carl in this city, with burial at St Louis cemetery. Gordis Smith receives sympathy from many friends across Fyearion county.

The Hotel Royal Frontenac, a major summer resort on Lake Michigan, burned down starting at 10 15 p m causing estimated losses over 100 000 dollars. Owned by the Ann Arbor Railway Company it had been closed since September and attracted patrons from Chicago St Louis Cincinnati New York and other eastern cities. The 500 foot long three story lakefront structure housed 50 rooms and enjoyed a strong season before the fire.
