About 200 attendees heard W A Ellis unable to attend, with Peter Vorhees leading on improving country roads advocating direct road tax. Senator Ely discussed road improvements, suggesting a city stone crusher to supply material at cost. Jotham Allen spoke on successful farming and a petition urging Congress to maintain the sugar tariff. 48 members signed the roll.

A grand masquerade party will be held at the Maple Grove roller rink next Tuesday evening January 11. A 4 1 2 mile exhibition race will feature judges Dr Erwin and Bert Forquor with a prize pair of Anest roller skates. The Gratiot County Roundtable Institute opened in Ithaca with 150 attendees for a two day session. President W T Pitt urged farmers to pursue knowledge and businesslike farming, noting progress from scrub agriculture to skilled, diversified farming and the rising role of Agricultural Colleges and Farmers Institutes. He warned that life work should bring pleasure and that delaying fulfillment until death is unwise.

An explosion at the Ann Arbor freight depot at about 4 PM tore through a barrel of gasoline and ignited the depot. Delos Donkle and Harley Wolch escaped with their lives as flames and several tank cars burned. Dozens were endangered as the fire spread to coal sheds and a box car, with workers and bystanders damaged by heat and debris.
