Class Reunion of 1916 Held in Alma High Hall

The first class of 1916 reunion at Alma high school took place Friday evening in Weese's hall. Supper at seven was served by Mrs Gill and Mrs Cash. Attendees included Ralph Tinkham from Camp Custer Hazel Grow from Transylvania College Lexington Ky Mildred Cash studying M A Mrs Rhines Ithaca Leo Beach Marion Bartley Ruth VanAlstine Howard Rogers Marion Hale and others all teaching or working in city. Also Miss Bittner and Olive J Smith attended.

Taxes on Incomes Are Now Payable

Federal income tax officer James J. Bendy will visit Alma February 11 to 14 to help residents prepare returns at no cost. Estimated 000 taxpayers in the county. penalties up to 1000 dollars for failure to file by March 1. Residents elsewhere may also meet the agent.

Mrs Katherine Doty Dies at 82 in Barryton Michigan

Katherine Doty born near Dashville Michigan on May 20 1885 died after a short illness at age 82. Widow of Albert Doty she married him November 6 1900 and left four surviving children Emma Belle Erma Caroline Glenn Archibel and four brothers and one sister. Funeral services held at the church with Elder Mudge officiating and body taken to Barryton for interment.

Boys Burned in Fire After Sparkler Incident

Harold Thrush aged 4 and Arthur Thrush aged 4, sons of Mrs and Mrs Jesse Thrush of Emervon township, were badly burned on their faces and necks when a sparkler exploded while they played with it on Monday December 1. They were taken to the city for treatment.

Epler murder case widens as Bush arrested in Camp Grant

Sheriff Bradford and Deputy Murphy arrest Dorsey Willis Bush alias Dorsey Willis in Illinois on murder charges tied to Beatrice Epler’s death. Prospects Slim for Alma Basketball Team This Year

The Alma College basketball outlook dimmed as key players were lost to graduation and military service. Levies In Effect On Income Tax From January First

The new income tax begins January first with payment due June first. Unmarried individuals earning over 1000 and married or head of a family earning over 2000 are taxed. Rates rise with income up to 5000, with 2 percent on 1000 to 3000, 4 percent on 3000 to 5000. A surtax applies to higher incomes, total levies reaching 5 percent to 7500 and 6 percent to 10000, with major fortunes taxed at 67 percent.

Alma post office to close Sundays during unattended hours

Postmaster Cash explains Sunday closure at Alma post office due to incomplete fixtures keeping rear room connected to the lobby. Clerks will be on duty Sundays at 7 to 9 a. m., 1:30 to 12:40 noon, and 4 to p. m., with front doors unlocked only during these hours.
