Teachers Meet With Pomona at Ithaca Opera House

A Gratiot county teachers and Gratiot County Pomona Grange meeting convened February 11 at Ithaca’s opera house due to the Crow murder trial. Speakers included Hon. H. F. P. Baker, Ithaca’s State Rep Chambers, and Prof M. A. Cobb. Baker discussed farmers, taxation, tariffs, trusts, and the near-term politics shaping Michigan policy and woman suffrage.

Berman Brothers Turn Scraps Into Wealth In County

Rev. Jackson Away to Durand for Diocesan Convocation

Rev. J. Frank Jackson rector of the Episcopal church left Tuesday afternoon for Durand to attend the central convocation of the diocese of Michigan. The gathering was held Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning and afternoon. He returned home today.

Worthy idea trims graduation outfits in Saginaw

Saginaw public school graduation classes vote to economize on attire for commencement. An itemized list shows a total cost of about 12 to 15 dollars, with many already owning items. Hats and gloves likely eliminated, substitutions used, and a per-student cap of about 14 dollars suggested. The committee hopes smaller schools may follow.

In a church parlors gathering last Thursday evening, over fifty men from the Presbyterian Society heard Dr. Boyd of Detroit speak. Introduced by the pastor, the speaker held attentive interest as he delivered a forcible talk. The program closed with coffee served by the young men, and all attendees expressed they were thoroughly pleased with the evening.

Knights of the New Century Host Third Lincoln Banquet

The Knights of the New Century held their third Lincoln banquet on Monday February 4 at Carlyn Delevans home. High School Lanterns Light Science Lab and Annual Fair

The high school placed a lantern and slides in the science lab for instruction. A senior annual fair benefits their publication, with editors and committees hard at work. Frederick George Scott Dies After Illness

Alma laments the death of Frederick George Scott a prominent business man and Mason who passed away Saturday at 6 am after Brights disease. Born July 29 1861 in Port Huron he worked for Ward’s Lake Superior line in 1887 then moved to Alma in 1899 joining Alma Roller Mills rising to general superintendent. He never married and is survived by his mother Mrs Anna Scott and two brothers Otis Seate and W H Scott. Funeral held from his State street home with Masons in charge. interment at Woodmere Cemetery Detroit.

Dinner for Taft at Interior Secretary Ballinger’s home

National Capital note reports a dinner hosted by Secretary Ballinger and his wife in Washington. President Taft, Justices Holmes and Hughes, senators Crane Brandegee Root and others attended at Rauscher's. Included were guests from Seattle Boston Cincinnati Alma Michigan and Harrisburg.
