Pioneer Charles M Scott Dies in Alma on Water Street
Charles M Scott a early Alma pioneer died at his Water Street home on Friday afternoon December 19 1902 after years of illness. The funeral was held from the residence Monday and interment followed in Riverside cemetery. He came from Scotland with his ancestors and helped settle DeWitt Clinton County Michigan, building the Clinton House and guiding early mail and stage routes. His sons Sylvester David and Charles M survive, with the family retaining ownership of parts of the old estate in Clinton County.

Charles M Scott born in Clinton county and veteran of the 12th Pa Cavalry. He served from enlistment to the war’s end, endured capture and prison, and later settled in Alma Gratiot county. He and Mary Webber helped found the First Congregational church of Alma.
