Legionaires 10 Elect Officers In Dual Ticket Race

At a Geo W Myers Post meeting two tickets were filed for next year’s officers. The Whites and Blues tickets name H E K Reece as commander and Rev John Mulvey as post chaplain on both lists. Campaign managers F L Ton and Larry Kettell lead the rival sides as districts brace for a lively contest with campaign funds approved.

Alma water system report awaited by city officials

City officials expect the formal Alma water system report by engineer J B Rumsey to be ready for the next city commission meeting Tuesday evening. The informal findings supported investigating manager Reynolds and backing the Pittsburgh Destoings Steele bid for a 200000 gallon tank. Mrs Mary Church, who has won nursing, returned to Ithaca this week.

Victory Medal applications urged for Michigan men

Governor Albert K Sleeper calls county city and township authorities to inform veterans of Victory Medal applications. Western Michigan should send to Grand Rapids Army Recruiting Office 211 Monroe Avenue while Eastern Michigan uses Detroit Woodward Avenue office. The notice, dated November 30, requests officials to stimulate medal applications. Alma Chamber of Commerce launches city beautification drive

One hundred eighty six members of the Alma Chamber of Commerce began a citywide membership drive in the first half day. Workers canvassed every area, securing new members and sharing enthusiasm for Alma to become a leading “city beautiful.” A noon luncheon featured talks by W. W. Cushing and others. Plans for a big Victory banquet at Alma High School were announced, with tickets to be sold at $1.00 to fund the campaign.

Denatured Alcohol Case Leads to Vagabond Charge

Three men were picked up after being seen drinking denatured alcohol. John Smith of Flagstaff and Charles P. Mahoney of Mason were jailed after appearing before Justice William H. Rogers with charges of vagrancy and drunkenness. Officers found a quart bottle containing denatured alcohol in the courtroom. Smith had 85 cents. both men were held at the county jail and later moved to Than Ly by officers.

Lyceum Monday Evening Lecture on Lincoln Soul

Disfigured English novelist Arnold Bennett visits Chicago with sculptor Lorado Taft who will lecture on the Lyceum course Monday evening. Proposed ordinance gets first reading in city council

Remodeling of Alma Foundry Nears Completion

Work is pushing rapidly on remodeling the former A-Cell-Au Paint plant into the Alma Foundry & Manufacturing company. A two ton cupola will enable four tons of castings daily, with offices and pattern rooms in the winged building. Additional facilities include blacksmith and woodworking shops, a Little Giant Paper Press, and plans for furnaces and other products to boost Alma as a regional manufacturing center.

Alma College Lyceum to present Colonial Period lecture

The Alma College chapel hosts the third Lyceum Course lecture Saturday at 8 15 pm. Sara Alice Pollock will speak on The Colonial Period in American Literature and the public is invited. An auction sale by Delos Grosvenor follows at his farm near Alma.
