Extra Vote Offer Continued This Week

Bad weather handicapped some contestants so the paper repeats the extra vote offer this week. Ten thousand extra votes are given for every ten dollars spent on subscriptions from December 2 through December 8.

Close Call: Man Receives 2800-volt Shock in Home Incident

Last Tuesday H McKinney entered his bathroom and, while turning on the electric light, received a 2800 volt shock when a transformer on a nearby pole malfunctioned. He was knocked to the floor, badly burned on the hand, but recovered and left the scene in good condition.

Beet seed cultivation to begin near Charlevoix by sugar company

The Holland St. Louis Sugar Co. at St Louis plans beet seed cultivation near Charlevoix, aiming to seed future crops. Other U S plants will also test the experiment next year. The Continental Sugar Co Michigan notes success last year and will expand into the business. Experts claim 16 reasons why beet weed can be produced domestically, offering local employment and keeping money at home.

Pioneer Bogardus Dies After Long Oregon Stay

W. J. Bogardus longtime Alma resident died at his home in St. Johns Oregon on Tuesday. Born in Ohio in 1839 he served as a private in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later moved across states settling in Alma and nearby areas. He left a wife two daughters and a son. The body will be brought to Alma for interment in Riverside cemetery.

Tragic House Fire Claims Mrs Zoss In Alma Area

A devastating blaze at the Zoss home near North Star overnight results in the death of Mrs. Zoss from smoke and flames. Mr. Zoss and neighbors fought the fire. the husband suffered severe burns and exhaustion. The couple’s children and other residents mourn the loss as investigators note the body was found in the parlor area after the smoke concealed the victim.
