1922 Auto and Truck Licenses On Sale In Alma

Sharrar and Watson opened in the Wright Hotel block selling 1922 automobile and truck license plates and title blanks. Motorists must have 1921 registration, driver’s license, and title by July 1 1922. Transfers require forms and timely action with penalties up to 50 dollars. Royal Neighbors meet at Mrs Dettz’s home December 7. Harold Lloyd film ad teased.

Silver Fox Show Set for Muskegon Dates This December

Muskegon Michigan hosts the National Silver Fox Breeders Association live silver fox show on December 7 8 and 9 1912. The event features over half a million dollars worth of domesticated silver foxes plus a fur collection valued in thousands. Foxes from across the northern United States will be exhibited including black silver red white blue and cross stock. Muskegon leads in the industry among U S silver fox communities and ranks second only to Prince Edward Island Canada. The local industry started six years ago with four pairs and has grown to about 2400 foxes valued around 1 4100 000.

Bus line linked Alma and Mt. Pleasant opens

A new bus service between Alma and Mt. Pleasant began Monday November 28. Buses make two trips each way daily with departures from Alma to Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 am 10:00 am 1:00 pm and 3:20 pm. Morning departures from Mt. Pleasant to Alma are at 9:00 am 11:20 am and in the afternoon at 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm.

Prominent Alma resident William I Amesbury dies at 62

William Ira Amesbury longtime Alma resident died Thursday afternoon at his Park Avenue home at 62. Born April 4 1869 in Jackson County he lived in Gratiot Saginaw Standish before returning to Alma. He leaves a son a daughter Iva two grandchildren and four brothers. Funeral services were held Sunday with Masonic rites at Riverside Cemetery by Alma Lodge No 244 Fo and A M.

Ruggles Honored at St Louis Testimonial Banquet

A testimonial dinner was held in St Louis Friday at the Park Hotel honoring Frank W. Ruggles of Alma former president of the Republic Motor Truck Company and current head of the Northern Wheel Company Alma and the Ruggles Motor Truck Company of Salcinaw. Attendees included business leaders who praised his role in Alma’s growth. Toasts were given by Frank W. Ruggles Newell Sudth George Vilet C W Giddings and William Yost.

Newark Farmers Arrested After Thanksgiving Drinking Spree

Three respected Newark township farmers were arrested on Thanksgiving evening after police intervened in their celebration. They had consumed home brew, were taken to a hospital for sobriety, then appeared before a justice of the peace and paid fines and costs. The brew allegedly came from Mt Pleasant, and officers warned it should not recur.

Northern Wheel Company shows resilient Alma growth

The Northern Wheel Company of Alma, a rare new local industry with about 300 stockholders, recovered from early depression impacts. After a slow November and December, January brought renewed output, expanding payroll from a few workers to well over ten and building orders for multiple months. The nine month period produced over 200000 dollars in revenue and about 125000 wheels manufactured, with payroll near 90000 for the year, including recent deals with Western corporations. Improvements Under Way By Gratiot County Gas Co

The Gratiot County Gas Company has begun major upgrades to improve coke and gas service. Plans include an 80 by 40 foot coke shed with 750 tons storage, new 40 by 8 inch gas storage tanks, a meter home for Alma St Louis Breckenridge and iWhaes, high pressure meters, a new main to Grover avenue, separate lines for Ithaca and for St Louis Breckenridge, and a meter prover to ensure accuracy. Twice daily gas tests at city hall ensure high service quality for Alma St Louis Ithaca and Breckenridge residents.

Temporary factory secured for Acme Beet Harvester plant

Construction on a temporary factory for the Acme Beet Harvester Company has begun. Designer Mr Lippert, deeply interested in the project, expects remodeling of the quarters to be finished within thirty days. The site near Wright Park off Orchard Street Addition will house a machine shop large assembly floor paint and storage rooms, enabling production of three harvesters daily once complete.
