King Wins State Senate Seat in Eleventh District Race

In Gratiot Isabella Mecosta and surrounding counties King prevails with a broad majority while Dodds loses. Hughes retains county clerk post as Myers succeeds Chambers. King leads in sheriff race with Ennis and Myers close. Everden edges Goggins for prosecuting attorney. Alma and Ithaca voters close. Martindale leads for governor with a Detroit base. Ill Moose Progressive Party Forms in County

A group met at Rev. George H. Carl's office last Monday and organized a National Progressive party in the county. They plan a Roosevelt Club and nominate Carl for state representative at the primary, with three party members to write in Carl for representative. A county convention at City Hall is set for September 5.

Braske to Lead Dutch Reform Church in Holland

Dr. A. F. Braske and wife Dr. Braske head to Alma on Friday to pack before moving to Holland where he has accepted a pastorate at the Dutch Reformed Church. He praises Roosevelt sentiments in the West but refrains from predicting Roosevelt’s or Roosevelt’s states, saying he is confident of a strong showing.

Roosevelt Club elects officers amid mass meeting

The article notes a mass meeting to energize voters for the county convention. Delegates named from the city include George W. Irish, George Abbott, and Homer Dunham. George Carl was elected president of the Roosevelt Club with Homer Dunham as secretary and G. B. Porter as treasurer.

Fireman Emanuel Andrews Fatally Injured En Route

Last Monday morning on a passenger train from Saginaw to Stanton fireman Emanuel Andrews was found fatally wounded in the cabin. He died at Danforth's sanitarium at 1 p.m. after being struck by a freight car while leaning from the cab window near the pickle factory. Andrews, 1 years old, formerly of Evergreen, lived in Saginaw and was brought to Sheridan for burial. The First Presbyterian church resumes services next Sunday with Rev. Vahan Reshgetoor preaching both morning and evening.

John T. Swigart and Ray Swigart shared travel notes from Montreal Quebec and other Quebec sites They described Canadian farming as shorter seasons with green wheat and oats and frequent rain They reported Canadians as cautious and wary of U S progress and noted St Anne's church at Beaupre and the Falls of Montmorency as highlights The Plains of Abraham lacked monuments while Quebec Jail was a visible landmark and the Falls of Montrhonency impressed with their height and beauty

Central Michigan Produce Co Expands Alma Plant

The Central Michigan Produce Co in Alma plans a $20,000 building program including a 20,000 chicken feeding station, new dressing rooms, and a two story addition. A December occupancy target and a January 1 hatchery expansion are planned as payroll, farmer purchases, and inbound produce payments rise with the growing operation.

Automobile Crash Near Ithaca Injures Man

Last Monday near Ithaca a Buick skidded off the road, throwing Frank Tucker from the vehicle. Tucker sustains a broken leg above the ankle and is being cared for at Ithaca and then Sumner. Other notes mention a Nelson Rivers fight film at the Vaudette and a dinner party honoring newlyweds Roy and Ralph Wheaton.

Uniform electric rate filing to aid consumers power firms

At the start of next November Michigan electric power users will gain a chance to compare their rates with those of other firms and with rates in other cities. A practical plan for a uniform rate filing system with the state railroad commission has been nearly completed by a committee of major power companies and R. R. Darwin, now a commission expert. The system aims to become full in about two months and will help address rising demand as power wires expand in manufacturing, especially auto-related industries. F. L. Taylor of Mt.
