Charles Harlock, carrier on Rural Free Delivery No. Five, plans to leave for Bax Elder Montana to homestead a tract filed months ago. On Saturday August 16, about 75 adults and many children surprised him at his West Centre street home, sharing a picnic and presenting a clock and linens as thanks for serving 114 families on his route.

Apple Crop Outlook Shows Strong Ohio River Valley Demand

The Boston Chamber of Commerce issued a notice stating New York state and the Midwest lead a banper apple crop for export shipments. The far west Virginia and New England down, but New York and the middle west raise this year’s average to about 50 percent above last year. Michigan Missouri Arkansas Indiana Iowa Nebraska Kansas report 75 percent more apples, while Oregon Washington decline and Colorado Utah show slight increases.

Illinois Picnic at Ithaca Forges Permanent Group

Illinois residents of Gratiot county Michigan and friends from Michigan held their first annual August picnic on Ithaca fairgrounds. Iron salvage from hull details and firm actions

The Henry Richinsky & Son firm of Water Street reports cutting and salvaging iron from a hull. About 404 tons of iron and 2.5 tons of brass have been removed and shipped east, with a lead pile also taken. North American Boiler Co will cut beams into seven foot lengths for removal by derrick. The process uses oxyacetylene torches and oxygen jets to heat and cut quickly.
