Deaths Rise and Births Fall in Michigan Half Year
A Michigan Health Department report for the first six months of 1922 shows 329 more deaths than the same period in 1921 and 5502 births recorded. The death rate remains 11.8 per 1,000 population, the lowest on record, while population growth keeps the rate steady. Deaths January to July totaled 25,181 versus 22,852 the prior year. 43,484 births occurred in the latter half of the year versus 49,476 last year.

Old Resident Mrs Baker Dies After Long Illness
Laura Ann Ferguson Baker, longtime Alma resident and wife of James A. Baker, died August 10 after a three year illness ending with a stroke on July 24. Born May 20 1853 in Howell Michigan, she moved with family to Shiawassee County at age five and married in 1875. She leaves husband two sons Claude and Ray a brother two sisters and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the family home with Riverside cemetery interment.

Moore Injured When Automobiles Collide
Floyd Moore of this city was badly hurt Friday morning when his automobile and another car collided on Superior street while he was on his way to work. Hugh Wishmire, driving north from Alma, did not notice Moore's car until the near collision. Both drivers braked, the wet street caused skidding, and Moore was thrown from the car as his steering wheel grip broke.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Recalls Fifty Married Years
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Davis of 682 Gratiot avenue celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Married August 15, 1872 in Charlotte Michigan, they began life in Eaton Rapids, later moving to Alma in 1884 where they have resided. They had two sons, William Aaron and Edward Oscar. Electrocution at Alma: Merritt Miller dies after line work
Merritt Miller of Central Michigan Light & Power was electrocuted Wednesday afternoon while installing a transformer on a pole for Continental Utilities Co in Alma. Doctors attempted to revive him with a pul motor but failed. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J W Miller of west Alma and a graduate of Alma High School. The funeral is set for Saturday with services at 2 PM in the Methodist Church.
