Banner notes the Ithaca institute in Gratiot County drawing 167 then 205 teachers for registration, with Supts. Simmons Monroe and Cook guiding two class setups. It praises readings, pedagogy, grammar, mental arithmetic, and music by Beckner of Alma College, promising more details next week.
A public picnic planned by Gratiot County Grange and farmer clubs will be held in Thomas Grover Woods near Alma on Friday August 27 with Mrs. Mayo speaking at 2 40 PM. Also advertised is a popular wedding trip on D C steamers to Mackinac Island with advance reservations and fare notices.
An association in St Louis formed to host a two day race meet at the St Louis driving park on August 14 and 15 featuring trotting and pacing events. Local and outside horses are expected to fill three daily classes, with special events and bicycle exhibitions, along with 25 cent admissions.
