Alma College Prepares For New Year And Athletics
Vacation work at Alma College includes painting and calsomining the main building and ladies' hall, excavation for a new Museum, and plans to enclose it this fall. The Circus Arrives and Delights Town Crowd
The Great Show drew large crowds, with 6,000 at the afternoon performance and about 2,000 at night. Attendance for all features reached roughly 19,000 tickets. Notable acts included Captain Woodward’s trained animals, Hanlon’s aerials, Willie Schaar, Paul Brackard, the Car-Damman troupe, the Jackson family, and William Gorman. The event proceeded in orderly fashion with ample eating options and overall strong presentation.

Gratiot County Rail Line Moves Forward With Mortgage
A 2 500 000 mortgage for a new railroad through Gratiot County, likely passing Alma, has been filed and construction to begin soon. The line would run Marshall to Sumner, then to Midland and Bay City, using a long-held right of way bought in 1871. Groundwork started at Marshall this week under contractor Seymore.
