Sugar beet growers are informed that beginning Saturday, April 22, 1899, the Alma Sugar Company will begin distributing. The notice signals the start of a planned distribution of beets or related product to registered growers in the district.
The Seed House in Ama Michigan invites patrons to apply promptly and bring a bag for seed. Located on State Street just north of the opera house block behind Shartar Mulholland’s corner drug store. Michigan Agricultural College reports seed sample tested thirty points above the USDA standard.
The Alma Sugar Company appeals to Ottawa and Gratiot county farmers to grow sugar beets locally to keep money within the area. It warns beets grown elsewhere will ship profits out of town, urging prompt contracts and offering preference to cooperative growers who start early. The piece likens the importance to local merchants and notes the factory must close soon as the season advances.

Mrs Rathbone Carpenter eminent Wagnerian scholar and lecturer, secured by the college music department to present a Friday evening lecture on Lohengrin in the college chapel. The lectures appeal to musicians and general readers alike.
Rev W K Spencer D D was regularly installed as pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Alma on Thursday evening in the presence of many members and citizens. The ceremony was led by Rev Samuel Todd moderator of the Saginaw Presbytery with Rev Edward K Strong preaching the sermon. Rev Otis A Smith delivered the charge to the people and Rev Jay Clizbe D D of Alma delivered the charge to Spencer. The community extends best wishes for Spencer and his family and a prosperous future for him and the church.
The Adelphic Literary Society held its annual public in the college chapel on Monday evening. The program featured Rubinstein piano solo by Misa Whiting, an invocation by Adolph Vought, and orations by Sanford on the Initiatory and Referendum Systems, Beethoven by B. Walker, and Henry Drummond by Martin. Ronald spoke on Modern Fiction as the mandolin club received repeated encores and the President Swift delivered a strong Plutocracy address.
