The high school juniors and seniors held an intering debate last Wednesday on whether the present high tariff should be lowered. The affirmative team was Paul Morgan Ray Cheney and Floyd Smith. the negative was Frans Nalilke Carl Adams and Carly Delevan. Judges Carl Titus Dallas Brock and Pref Ellsworth ruled in favor of the juniors.

St Marys Catholic church gains interior upgrades and gifts

A force of workmen prepared the north room and basement of the 1 O, F. temple for Mr. W. B. McAuley to open an overall and jacket factory. McAuley arrived Monday with machines and stock ready to start once building changes finish. Four skilled operators accompany him to train new workers. An office will be added, cutting tables set on the south, machines on the north, basement for surplus stock and shipping.

A Deserved Compliment To Pine River Treasurer
In Pine River the election of Freeman C Jolson to succeed himself as treasurer is praised. A tax roll of 11745.46 netted 111.65 in uncollected revenue, with 75.00 lost due to a taxpayer out of the county. Jolson kept accounts in excellent condition, aiding a swift annual settlement and report review. Mr Johnson is congratulated for his success at the polls and appreciation from the township.

The 1908 Alma sidewalk program replaced old boardwalks with cement and crownwalks. Cement walks totaled 46,283 square feet costing 3467.06 with repairs of 10.02, plus Calvertson Prospect street at 85.60 giving cement walks 4651.15. City and property owners shared costs, and the total walk laid reached one and one third miles.

Aged Elm Hall Resident Michael Straver Passes Away
Michael Straver died at his home near Elm Hall on April 10 at age 84. Born in 1825 in Stark County Ohio, he moved to Michigan in 1849, served three years six months in the army, and spent most of his life on his farm. He survived by his wife, a brother Jake Strayer, sister Mrs Amanda Hickman of California, a daughter Mrs Belle Surtevant, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Elder Gallop officiating. interment in Elm Hall cemetery.

Detroiter Uses Bogus Draft To Pay Hotel Bill
A man registering as A K Ward from Berlin Michigan stayed several days at Hotel Breck enridge. He left a New York draft for eight dollars to cover the bill, endorsed by James Mathews. The bank paid Ward the balance after deducting the bill, but the draft was altered from eight to twenty dollars. Officers seek Ward, a man with a similar name linked to bogus checks in Vestaburg.
