A rural note discusses beet sugar profitability, examining soil influence and a local trial by Wim Howe one mile south of town. Howe grew Kleinwanzleben beets, sent samples to Washington, and a sugar analysis by H W Wiley found only average sugar content. The article urges further local investigation into sugar beet viability.
A grass fire near a home five miles from town badly scorched six year old Bessie Daymon who died after her dress caught fire while she tried to transfer embers. Her father smothered the flames but sustained burns. funeral was held at Adam's school house. Nearby, the community looks forward to the Euterpe Club's annual concert on Friday April 20 in the opera house with former members expected to attend.
Miss Anna Gelston formerly Alma College Latin and English assistant professor now of Ann Arbor will lecture on travel abroad in the kindergarten room at eight o'clock. She spent eight months in Europe with relatives, visiting Italy England Germany France and Holland, and will emphasize Italy and England with insights from principal cities. Admission 25 cents. Also notes on baseball mass meeting, village appointments, new songs, thank you card, dissolution notice, and local ads.
