The Fire Fiend Burns Pine River Supervisor’s Home
The residence of Supervisor Gordis Smith in Pine River township was totally destroyed by fire at 8 30 last Saturday morning. Firefighters had just finished at Geo Abbott’s when flames were spotted. The Smith home, a large white frame building, was a total loss with 600 dollars of building and 300 dollars contents insurance. The cause remains undiscovered. the fire started in the south wing of the second story where no recent fire had occurred.

Sudden Death of Ithaca Businessman Charles H Rowland
Charles H Rowland prominent Ithaca businessman and Mason died this morning after rising feeling poorly and returning to bed. Born 1866 he was active in the Woodmen. Funeral services will be held Friday with interment in Greenville. The couple had recently returned from a trip to Cuba and Florida in good health.

Mrs. Cohoon Injured After Night Farm Accident
Mr and Mrs Lyman Cohoon returning from California were in a buggy overturned near Latimer farm one mile west of Alma when a wagon crashed into the wreck in darkness. Mrs Cohoon suffered an ankle injury and a wagon wheel passed over her leg, but no bones were broken and she is improving rapidly.

Alma Doctor Plans Chicago Surgical Post Return Later

McClinton announces he will leave Alma around May 1 to join Dr. Alex Hugh Ferguson at the University of Illinois in Chicago as assistant to the professor of surgery and president of Chicago Hospital. He expects a one year absence and will resume his Alma practice upon return. Dr. F. E. Felch will continue practice and occupy his office during McClinton’s absence. Alma organizes a new band led by Mr DeLacey of Indiana with prior experience in hand work. The city retains instruments and uniforms from a three year old band. In Sumner township, April 1 voting tallies gave Harlan Woodward and Wm Hutchinson 150 votes each for supervisor. A recount found one Republican ticket hidden within Democratic votes, boosting Woodward to 165 with Hutchinson at 150. Total ballots 315, including 4 straight Democratic and 165 split, with five ballots invalid. Woodward, a long-time resident and school inspector, is described as well qualified to serve on the Gratiot County Board of Supervisors.
