Alma furniture store to host spring opening event

Crandell and Scott invite Alma and surrounding residents to a two day spring opening Friday and Saturday featuring an up-to-date display of Discassian furniture. Decorated rooms showcase chandeliers, grapes and umbrellas, with refreshments served by young ladies and live music by an orchestra. Bargains include stools at 10 for sale Saturday at 3 o clock. Mr J and Mrs Scott of Fremont supervise the display.

Alma voters elected the Democratic mayoral candidate amid a citywide ballot with wards reporting mixed results. Bonding propositions drew limited support, with turnout and notable names across wards and local offices.

Farmers buy one million pounds of twine from prison plant

Wisconsin and Michigan farmers have already purchased nearly one million pounds of 104 binder twine from the Jackson prison twine plant for the coming harvest. The twine sells for seven and a half cents cash or seven and three fourths cents payable October. This price is lower than last year.

Detroit Free Press notes funeral at 11 at family home 495 West Canfield Ave. Buck a clubwoman and donor died suddenly from ruptured blood vessel in lungs. Bonding Proposition Defeated by 156 Votes

The city bonding plan for 18 000 failed last Monday after a 156 vote deficit. Ward results show inconsistent counts but indicate overall defeat, despite a two-thirds majority requirement of 584 votes. The measure received 254 votes in favor and 410 against.

Triangular Debates Set For Alma and Oliver Tonight

On Friday April 16, Alma College hosts a debate at 6 o'clock in the college chapel. Hope College students defend the negative while Alma debates the affirmative. A second Alma team will travel to Oliver to challenge the negative. Oliver, with Hope College, will send a team to scrutinize the affirmative in the same evening. Citizens are urged to attend the college chapel Friday evening.

Alma Alumni Club Banquet at Mack's Tea Room

The first annual Alma Alumni club banquet of the University of Michigan was held at Mack's Tea Room in Ann Arbor in April 1900. The program included Day Dreams by Stanley Graves and Our College by Harry Craig, Reminiscences by Miss Gleason, Parting Echoes by Professor J. Q. Adams, and music by Miss Lulu Allen. A committee of Alex Sayles, John Campbell, and J. D. Finlayson organized the 1910 reunion and banquet for Miss Florence Nateson.

About fifty residents gathered at City Hall for a special meeting called by the Board of Trade to discuss a new overall factory project. The board accepted the contract with McAuley, planning a plant occupying a fraction of the 16, O. P. building and commencing operations within about thirty days.

Death claims Alice Fredrick in Alma tragedy

Alice Fredrick born in Toronto 28 years ago came to Alma at six with her parents. She died Tuesday at her Wright avenue home after a rapid decline from illness. She married Charles Murphy less than a year ago. Funeral Friday at 2 PM from the home with burial in Riverside Cemetery. She leaves husband, parents Mr and Mrs Robert Fredrick, one brother, and no sisters. Alma friends extend sympathy.

Hanson Named Owosso Superintendent For Year

The Owosso Board of Education received a letter from W E Hanson accepting the superintendency for the coming year at a salary of 1600. Hanson has six years as Manistique superintendent and earlier roles at Alma as principal and superintendent, with a strong record cited by the Owosso Times.

Ice business partnership forms with City Tee Co

Turner Picture Collection Exhibition at Alma Schools

Under public school auspices in Alma, the Turner collection of profanes will be shown at City Hall next week from Wednesday to Saturday, April 17. Two hundred world class productions will be on display to raise funds for school picture purchases. Admission is 15 cents for adults, 10 cents for high school students, and 5 cents for children.

The terrace of Herod's palace, the Jerusalem rooftops, sea of Galilee shores, Caiaphas and Pilate rooms, gates and Nicodemus house appear in the set. Storm demolishes bridge railing and lifts freight roof

A heavy wind storm on Tuesday night and Wednesday forenoon caused severe rainfall in Alma. Wind damage toppled a railing on the Pine river bridge on the Ithaca road, snapped tree limbs, and lifted a roof from a box car near the AA R R freight depot, throwing it against a tele hone pole and breaking cross arms.
