Negotiations Collapse as Britain Prepares for Long Coal Strike

London reports negotiations to settle the British coal strike broke down early today. Miners and owners failed to meet over preventing flooding of mines, prompting widespread preparations for industrial warfare. Murderer of Elwell Arrested in New York

New York April 7 By UV Roy Harris arrested in Buffalo for the murder of Joseph Elwell a prominent New York clubman who was mysteriously killed last month He confesses that a mysterious woman named Mrs Fulroud urged Dunkin and himself to kill Elwell in Central Park offering 5000 Harris says police seek the woman Mrs Fairchild but have no clue to her identity Also a letter to the Alma Record from the Citizens League disapproving of Monday’s crepe hanging and the League’s lack of knowledge regarding the mayor and commissioners actions.

Alma College students set world record in fundraising drive

Leaders at Alma College Alma Michigan led a two day drive in which every student subscribed to a 110000 fund to build a new gymnasium as part of a 685000 appeal 500000 of which goes to endowment. Average per student was 46 dollars and total raised 4157. The campaign saw 100 percent student participation while faculty pursued a meeting. A student who started with seventeen cents funded his way and even opened a small bank account.

The new electrical appliance shop in Alma will operate opposite 66 Superior, run by BE G. Schulte and W HLT Lawrence. Both men recently resided in Alma, with Schulte bringing retail expertise and Lawrence electrical knowhow. They will feature Cateract Electric Clothes Washer and Stoner, plus Ohio Tuce Electric Carpet Sweeper. Demonstration day set for April 8 at the 1900 Electric Shop with an appeal for locals to visit. The Alma Record wishes them success. Andrew J Hall Dead in Alma After Long Local Service

Andrew J. Hall longtime Alma resident died Wednesday evening on State Street after years of illness. A prominent local business and political figure, he helped lead the community in its early days. Born October 4 1865 in Eton Rapids he married Miss Hannaly Woodworth in 1885 and moved to Alma two years later. Survived by his wife and several relatives. Funeral will be from the home Friday with Rev Davis of the Episcopal church and the Mason lodge assisting at Riverside cemetery.

Somerset Kentucky April 7 Four Michigan people were among six killed in a Southern Railway wreck near New River Tennessee.
