In Alma, Francis Koog secured the mayoralty for the third time with a narrow 15 vote lead over Democrat Charles R. Murphy as a light turnout produced modest margins. Ralph Goggin lost the justice race by 2 votes to Democrat candidate. Adams and Carl Galagher ran unopposed for treasurer and clerk, with Nick Seed and Fred Bradford contesting the second ward supervisor seat. Mayor King and new alderman Smith headline a blended council as May approaches.

Red Cross Drive Seeks Old Newspapers for Alma Branch

A group of five Urbana hustlers plans a donation drive next Tuesday afternoon to collect old newspapers from Alma homes. Swift & Company and Republic Motor tracks will aid by providing trucks to haul the waste paper, which will be sold to raise funds for the Alma Red Cross. Growth prompts vote for eastern district school

Tonight the school board plans to set a date for a special voters meeting to seek a 46000 appropriation for a new ward school on the Imwood site in the eastern city. The two story fireproof building would be 110 by 72 feet with classrooms, toilets, and a large auditorium. The eastern end shows higher attendance, amid rapid city growth, increasing need for space.

Wright Opera House Leased to Alma Masons for Lodge Room

The Wright Opera House, longtime center of entertainment, has been leased for five years to the Masonic Lodge of Alma. Alma electorate backs city commission plan amid gas rate defeat

Voters in Alma approve a city commission form by a large margin, while rejecting a Gratiot County Gas Company rate increase. The gas proposition also carried in Ithaca and Breckenridge but failed in St. Louis and Alma. Nine charter revision candidates were elected alongside the referendum, with light overall turnout. A Breckenridge and Ithaca win contrasted by St. Louis and Alma defeats.
