Crematory Steps Scene Stuns Bay City Man

Bay City Mich March 31 Melvin A Root seventy years old shot himself on the steps of the Butta crematory after arranging for incineration and burial. He left a remark about being pulled in if he died before the crematory secretary. Root, long resident, had accumulated a fortune and was active in uplift and spiritualist circles with his late wife. A court dispute over a joint deed he made with Jared Snyder and family prompted his despondency following his wife's death. Local offices reorganizations and other notices fill a wide ranging March report from Detroit to Kalamazoo.
